Abstract

The paper discusses the adoption of six sigma methodology in IT sector, i.e. in organisations that develop information systems, in terms of barriers for six sigma implementation, success factors, six sigma approaches, tools and techniques specific for this industry. The main distinctiveness of the software product and the software process are analysed from the six sigma point of view. The significance of a closer synergy with the most commonly used method for software process improvement, i.e. capability maturity model is considered, and recommendations for future research were drawn.
